The next webinar on Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) will take place on December 8, 2021. The discussion will be chaired by Patrik Brundin (Van Andel Institute, USA) in conversation with: Helen Bronte-Stewart, MD, MS (Stanford University, USA); Tom Foltynie, MD, PhD (University College London, UK); and David Jones, a pharma entrepreneur who has undergone DBS in the UK. Join the webinar to hear about global research around new DBS approaches and targets. The event is free to attend, with limited spaces to join the live discussion and put questions to the experts. WPC Research Spotlight: Genetics and PD – What Does It All Mean? Nov 15, 2021 | 11:00 ET, 16:00 GMT, 17:00 CET | Online You can join the event to hear Professor Heid McBride (McGill University) discussing the challenges of studying Parkinson's disease (PD) across scales (molecules to cell biology to tissues and interconnectiveness of disease progression). The talk will include some personal aspects of her family experience with PD, plus the roadblocks that are in place due to the culture of science. To register, click the visual below or go here. Fox Foundation outlines plans to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in PD research to accurately reflect the PD population. “The current picture of PD has been assembled from a relatively homogenous population, and data remain sparse or are non-existent on many traditionally underrepresented groups: Black, Latino, Asian, Indigenous groups, LGBTQ+, and individuals of lower socioeconomic status,” explained Bernadette Siddiqi, MA, Senior Associate Director, Research Engagement, and Andrew Koemeter-Cox, PhD, Senior Associate Director, Research Programs of The Michael J. Fox Foundation, New York, NY, USA. “Without these data, it is impossible to fully comprehend the breadth and depth of PD across the entire population.” View Press Release | View Position Paper | If you know any colleagues and fellow researchers who are not signed up to receive the newsletter, we invite you to share this mailing with them.
