We are delighted to announce the publication of Volume 7, Issue 2 of Bladder Cancer (BLC). This issue hosts an outstanding selection of content, including one review article, three systematic reviews, and eight research articles. We are pleased to announce that board member Angela B. Smith, MD, MS, has been promoted to become Associate Editor for Bladder Cancer as of May 2021. Angela is an Associate Professor and Vice Chair of Academic Affairs at the University of North Carolina (UNC) Department of Urology in Chapel Hill. She received her MD and Masters of Science in Clinical Research from the University of North Carolina, where she completed her urology residency. She is Director of Urologic Oncology at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center where she treats GU malignancies, specializing in bladder cancer. She has a background in health services research and biostatistics with particular interests in patient-centered outcomes research, patient engagement, and quality of care for bladder cancer, and she is the co-PI for a PCORI large pragmatic trial in BCG refractory bladder cancer.

We are pleased to announce that Bladder Cancer reached the 2K milestone on Twitter in May 2021. Urology Legacy: From Mother to Daughter

We are pleased to introduce the guest blog section on our website. Our first contributor is Bladder Cancer board member Jennifer M. Taylor, MD, MPH (Baylor College of Medicine) who shares a post that covers an exceptional legacy in urology – the first mother and daughter to both become urologists. Thanks to her discussions with Eila Skinner (mother) and Claire Burton (daughter), we gain perspectives from their unique vantage point.

The Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN) has a number of initiatives to interact with leading bladder cancer experts.Recently, there was an Ask The Experts session and a number of episodes in the Bladder Cancer Matters podcast have been shared on BCAN's website and we highlight the inaugural episode from earlier this year below.

Ask The Experts: Recent Webinar
There was a recent online Q&A session where two leading bladder cancer experts answered pre-submitted questions in a live event. The experts taking part included: Kent Mouw, MD, PhD, from Dana Farber Cancer Institute; and Sarah P Psutka, MD, MSc, from the University of Washington School of Medicine. Bladder Cancer Matters: Inaugural Podcast
In the inaugural podcast of the series, Ashish Kamat, MD, from MD Anderson Cancer Center, was interviewed to talk about alternatives to BCG treatments, given that the treatment has been in short supply for some time and BCG does not provide acceptable results to all patients. BCAN recently announced the recipients of its New Discoveries Research Young Investigator Awards that support the development of outstanding early career research scientists and clinical cancer research investigators who have shown a commitment to improving the lives of bladder cancer patients. The five awardees are: Brendan Guercio, MD, from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center; Eugene Pietzak, MD, from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center; Filipe De Carvalho, MD, PhD, from Brigham and Women’s Hospital; Benjamin Miron, MD, from Fox Chase Cancer Center; and Svetlana Avulova, MD, from Mayo Clinic.
